Spiritual Tribe: Communing Beyond Clicks (Cliques)

PrayersA friend and I recently started a weekly Personal and Planetary Prayer Gathering. She and I have shared an interest and resonance around practical heart-full living for several years. Ironically, hard endings cleared the way for our current cooperation. Each of us left behind once-cherished spiritual circles. Suddenly we both had the time and space.  Finalities spiral to beginnings; it all works out.

The Prayer Gatherings flow gently from silence to sharing to affirmation and radiatory blessings and back to silence. It’s a rhythmic ritual that welcomes and employs the Heart, blending organization with invitation of that spontaneous creative Chaos which evokes cooperation, commitments, contributions and compatibilities so Genuine and Embracing they must be rooted beyond rationality and predictability. You know the feeling.  It’s that outflowing, inflowing collaborative Grace.  It’s serving with one’s Spiritual Tribe.  It’s pushing the edge of the known and offering something together.

Group effort can bring immense challenges and sometimes disappointments.  Believe me, I know. There’s a certain safety in confining one’s participation to global online petition clicks and hanging out within well-defined social circles.  But deep down I think many of us are searching for more meaningful face to face communion, communion that breathes the breathe of united interplay and giving.  For me right now it’s the weekly prayer group.  What is it for you?

Sound and Silence: Opera Inspired Prayer

operaA hearty union of orchestra and voice surged through the summer hills. It enveloped the evening frog chorus, integrated the fluttering of leaves and the day-ending bird songs.   Walking up Blue Spring Road, the sun painting the sky behind me, the White River cast in shadows below, I too was drawn into the fusing Sound.   My heart beat, my breath, my footsteps were absorbed into the interplay.

I expected the music to spiral to a peak. I waited for the applause to come. But the reverberating synthesis of human, plant, animal and earth carried on. Unstoppable. Sustaining. Elevating. Filling every moment. Every breath. Every inch with Life-enthusing Sound. I wish you could have been there to be part of it!

The students at Opera in the Ozarks set this Heart-stirring experience in motion with their opening performance of Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffman. The Opera of the Ozarks is located at Inspiration Point just ¼ mile from my house where Blue Spring Road and Hwy 6 come together. It commenced its 65th season this June.

I don’t know much about opera. But that evening’s spontaneous enveloping vibration struck a chord with me. The very feeling it evoked in my body exposed the possibility of upping my own Heart Song. Of being more energized in and expressive of Clarity, Devotion, Joy, Caring, Humor, and Strength in my relationships and life’s practical moments.

Drawing on the Operatic embrace, I have begun applying the power of spoken prayer and affirmation in addition to my usual meditation. Here’s a some partial phrasing I created and have been speaking: “May Evolution Proceed Afresh. Light Expands. Love Prevails. Power Emerges. For the Good. For the Good.  For the Good.”

For me practicing prayer through out the day builds inner and outer momentum for change. It evokes the Heart’s vibration. It infuses the mind and body with the Desired Note and creates a resonant surrounding field. And over time releases the Heart’s Song across the hills of everyday actions and interactions.

What is your experience with the gift of Heart-full spoken prayer?

Earth: Praying Globally, Invoking Locally . . . Very Locally

Garden AngelA prayer moves on human lips for every world problem.   War.   Hunger. Climate Change. Discrimination. Global troubles confronted by genuine words of faith.   Earth urgently embraced across continents.   Embraced by human Hearts in a consecrated pact of remembered responsibility.

Within my local Ozark stretch of Earth, my friend, Carolyn Amrit Knaus, is inviting congregations, spiritual groups and individuals to participate in Wednesday prayers for Peace during the month of June at the Heart of Many Ways Sanctuary. Amrit is using the phrase “Global Peace. Personal Peace” to frame the gatherings’ intent.  I find this transpersonal/personal integration describes well the challenge of living Heart-fully on Earth at this time.

Holding Earth, Her People and Integral Biology in Awareness through song, visualization, and prayer activates the Heart’s natural powers of Protection and Impetus for Change.   It attunes us to Primordial Planetary Harmonies.   And overtime builds trust in and loyalty to Earth’s Spiritual and Natural Beauty.

Absorbing and blissing in this Macrocosmic Communion is considered by some to be a high point of spiritual service. An ascension bright and expansive with promise and radiatory sharing, which makes the Heart Sing. True. But for me the high point comes later. It comes in the descent.

In the descent of translating the Heart’s Powers and the Desire of our Holy Supplications into everyday, real time, dust, rainy, sweaty human Earth reality. A sacred descent symbolized in prayer and ritual through sealing words of power: “So Be It”   “Amen”   “OM.” A descent actualized through invocative living, that is: keeping faith with cherished Macrocosmic Harmonies through intentional choices about our activities, bodies, emotions, relationships, and thoughts.

Part of our invocative human power lives in the very Earth-like structure of our being. We are a fusion of minerals, flesh, life-preserving instincts, watery emotions and dreams, of the fire of thought and breath, immanent Soul spark, and Spiritual flame.   This synthetic design gives credence to our potent Heart pact to pray globally and invoke locally . . . in the very locality of ourselves.  It reminds that what we do to ourselves, we do to Earth.   And what we do to Earth, we do to ourselves.   What will you do today?
